The mission of the Mary Jane Carvel Foundation is:
Mary Jane Welling was born on August 23, 1920. She was a colorful and vivacious personality and lived a long, exciting and consequential life.
She married Vincent Carvel in 1942. Unfortunately, Vincent died serving his country during WWII.
Mary Jane never remarried and never had children. However, she loved her dogs – or “poochies”, as she lovingly referred to them – and regarded them as her children.
She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved as though they were her own children. To them, she was lovingly known as “Aunt Janie”.
Mary Jane was a Houston socialite and was frequently seen in the city’s social circle at the Shamrock – the place to be “seen” in Houston at that time.
