Ian White is an Englishman who immigrated in 2005 after marrying a Texas gal he had met at Galveston’s Mardi Gras festival in 2003.
A lifelong journalist, he soon transferred his editorial skills from London’s national newspaper The Daily Express to Texas’ oldest newspaper, Galveston County Daily News, writing a popular weekly column and winning a national award for his editing of the paper’s opinion and letters pages.
After leaving the Daily News, he worked for several publications as a self-employed editor and writer, including four years as editor of Texas City’s newspaper The Post and four years as owner-editor of online newspaper Clear Leader News, before retiring in 2021.
In his private life, Ian has been a board member of Galveston Island Rotary Club, Galveston Seafarers’ Center and poor people’s food pantry Gleanings From The Harvest, which became Galveston County Food Bank during his board membership.
A lover of animals, he now owns two rescued dogs, Delta, “the world’s sweetest pit bull terrier”, and Nelson, “a chiweenie who thinks he’s a rottweiler”.
