The major fund-raising event during 2021 was the Spooky Paws Dinner and Costume Party held Oct. 23, 2022 at the Houston Club, 910 Louisiana on the49th Floor. Over 30 guests enjoyed cocktails and a full course dinner.
There was a presentation by Trustee and attorney Sharon L. Michaels, about Mary Jane Carvel, her long-time client and friend. Mary Jane Carvel’s dream was to protect animals and support the services in Houston and the surrounding areas for animals through her testamentary trust. She was a widow, her husband dying tragically in World War II. Never remarried, she went on to become a highly successful real estate developer and devoted many of her own resources to animal welfare.
A photographic presentation was made by Treasurer, Dawn Meade, of the presentation of checks given the past years to organizations such as Best Friends’ NRG Pet Adoption Event, Beaumont Pets Alive, Assistance League of the Bay Area-Assist Teens and Bay Area Pet Adoption Center. Guests also participated in buying tickets for raffle baskets.
